Golf in Czech Republic

In the last years the Czech Republic has witnessed a huge boom in the popularity of golf, and this trend seems set to continue into the future.

The number of active golfers is increasing every year, and as of 2007 the number of registered golfers stood at 29.000. Unfortunately we do not have information available relating to non-registered golfers and beginners who are getting acquainted with golf and trying out their first swings on public practise ranges.

For part of the population golf has become fashionable, a kind of status symbol. Arranging a business meeting on a golf course or organising a company golf tournament is now taken for granted. For many golfers, however, the game is a life-long passion. This brings with it great interest in the quality of golf equipment and clothes, as well as increased demands regarding the upkeep of golf courses and training areas. Last but not least, there is the growing interest on the part of the golfing public in golf tourism, which understandably is mainly a feature of the autumn, winter and early spring months.

Every golfer could choose one of 100 golf courses, driving ranges and indoors in Czech Republic.

We can see a similar growth in the interest shown in golf in other Central European countries. Golf is becoming a popular sport in Slovenia, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary and it will be very interesting to follow the process of its development in the former countries of the Soviet Union. Above mentioned countries are known for their beautiful countryside and if there will be more golf-fans they could become very interesting golf destinations. However, it can be anticipated that the Czech Republic will maintain its role as golf opinion leader, both because of its location and proximity to Germany and Austria, and its golfing history, of which the country has no small amount.

This is precisely why the Golf Show, held since 1996 in Prague, enjoys such favour and the interest of the Czech and foreign golfing public.
